International Conference in Siauliai Region of Lithuania

On 30th of November, 2017 Siauliai Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts in partnership with EC, Siauliai municipality, Siauliai university and EESC has organizedinternational conference „GLOBALIZATION AND ECONOMIC PATRIOTISM: DILEMAS,CHALLENGES AND POSSIBILITIES“ in Siauliai, LITHUANIA. Nearly 200 representatives from business, science, governmental bodies, local municipalities, social partnership and other institutions have gathered to the event.

Businessmen, scientists, foreign experts have seeked answers to these and related questions: How the economical patriotism can be managed? Is globalization a bad thing? What is the role of EU, different countries and regions? How we position ourselves among others? How joint efforts help to perform better? Aren’t we toosmall to be patriots?

Most of the participants of the conference agreed on the inevitability of globalisation processes and tried to answer the question,how everyone could benefit from this process.

Main speakers and panel discussion participants: Arnoldas Pranckevičius, Head of EuropeanCommission Representation in Lithuania; Prof. PhD. Jouke van Dijk, Groningen University, President of the European Regional Science Association (Netherlands); Remigijus Motuzas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Republic of Lithuania to Russian Federation; Rytis Dijokas, CEO of JSC STATGA; Pietro Francesco De Lotto, representative of European Economic and Social Committee Employer’s Group (Italy); Michael Horeth, Technical Universityof Kaiserlautern, Private and Economic Low, Intellectual Property scientific researcher, Industrial Engineer (Germany).

Prof. PhD. Jouke van Dijk has presented his study onthe future and challenges of future labour market. To his consideration, the knowledge is the main issue that enables to achieve economic growth. He have stressed on the huge impact of the migration too. Ambassador Remigijus Motuzas has outlined the problemsof relations between the EU and the Eastern neighbour Russia. The delegate of EESC Pietro Francesco De Lotto hasstressed on the importance to understand the current situation of evolution,perception of changes in a competitive environment. He has pointed out the needof assistance to civil society in shaping of the right approach to changes. 

The conference was organized in three sessions. In addition to the plenary session where the main topics were discussed, there were also two panel sessions: "Search of the regions immunity" and "Competition on talents".  The event took place along with the business exhibition of the region “Siauliai 2017” and other events for business, youth and community thus creating a synergy effect.
